What a virtual consultation covers

A typical virtual visit includes a review of your treatment goals, a verbal or written medical history (allergies, medications, prior cosmetic procedures, pregnancy status), and a visual assessment using photos or live video. The provider uses this to give a preliminary treatment plan and a price range, and to flag anything that would make you a poor candidate before you travel in for an appointment.

Virtual consultations are most useful for out-of-town patients scoping out a provider, first-timers deciding between treatment types, and people who want a price estimate before committing to an in-person visit.

What still requires an in-person visit

Injectable treatments (Botox, dermal fillers) and most energy-based devices (lasers, radiofrequency, ultrasound-based body contouring) require hands-on physical assessment and cannot legally be performed based on a virtual exam alone in most U.S. states — medical spas operate under state-specific supervision requirements that generally mandate an in-person evaluation, sometimes by the medical director specifically, before the first treatment.

A virtual consult can narrow down your options and estimate cost, but treat it as a planning step, not a substitute for the in-person exam and consent process.

How to prepare for a virtual consultation

Take photos in even, natural lighting from the front and both side angles. List current medications and supplements, prior cosmetic treatments and when you had them, and any allergies. Prepare 2–3 specific questions about the treatment you're considering — pricing, expected downtime, and how many sessions are typical.
